Symptoms of error code C123EF0

Typically, this failure manifests as:

  • Message "Braking system fault, STOP carefully"
  • Malfunctions in the Traction Control System
  • Brake pedal defect
  • Extended braking distances
  • Traction control light activated
  • Loss of emergency braking function, leaving only standard braking

What causes error code C123EF0?

The main causes of this fault are: Brake vacuum system malfunction. The brake pedal can completely lose function due to this malfunction if driven on for too long!

If the brake booster system fails, the ABS pump and module may malfunction, leading to code C123EF0.

Important:
We advise that after repairing ABS pumps with fault C123EF0 , always replace the brake booster pressure sensor. Simply installing a remanufactured ABS pump is not sufficient. The underlying cause of the vacuum problem in the vehicle must always be resolved first.
If this is not done, the error code C123E F0 will reappear, even with a remanufactured pump.

Most common causes of error code C123E F0

● Faulty brake booster pressure sensor

The Brake Booster Pressure Sensor is located on the vacuum hose, directly at the brake booster.

  • This sensor must be replaced with the latest, improved version.
  • The initial versions had a factory defect, which often leads to this malfunction.

● Vacuum pump issue

The vacuum pump is the second most common cause of this malfunction.

  • The vacuum pump is integrated into the oil pump.
  • This pump also had production defects in earlier versions.
  • Replacement with an updated model is necessary.

● Leaks in vacuum hoses

  • Wear or cracks in the hoses
  • Damage by animals (e.g. martens)
  • Poor or loose connections

● Leaking brake booster

  • Internal leakage of the brake servo
  • Insufficient vacuum build-up for proper brake boosting

Important installation instruction

Only after fully resolving all vacuum issues can the remanufactured ABS/ESP pump be safely installed.
