TCU (Transmission Control Unit) - gearbox control unit

What is a TCU?

TCU (Transmission Control Unit), or the gearbox control unit, is an electronic element that has been widely used in automatic transmissions in recent years. So TCU is a computer that controls the gearbox.

The symptoms of a defective TCU

The first symptom is no longer switching to another gear . It often happens that a damaged TCU causes the necessary shocks and bumps. There is also a message on the dashboard: a general fault light, sometimes "F" or "-", for example in the case of Easytronic from Opel and Durashift from Ford.

Damaged TCU always generates error codes. These error codes differ per brand and type. That is why we always advise our customers to have the error codes read out as quickly as possible at a workshop or dealer.
